Thomas William Babson is an actor, teacher, and writer.

Babson attended high school in the early 60s in Gloucester, Massachusettes. He attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York and graduated from the University of Massachusettes with a degree in theatre. He also earned a Masters of Fine Arts from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusettes.

His first acting credit came in the TV movie, "Snowbeast". He played a character attacked by a bigfoot-like creature. He was able to perform his own stunt of falling down the slope, since at the time he was working as a ski patrolman. He starred in a followup film, "Beasts".

On Cheers, he played Tom, a background character. Although only receiving a handful of credits, Babson can be spotted in episodes throuought the series run. He was credited under several different character names, most being a variant of his own name, but once as "Barney" and once as "Customer #1".

Aside from Cheers, Babson also guest-acted in the TV series "CHiPs", "Lou Grant", "Hill Street Blues", "The Greatest American Hero", "Knots Landing", "Dallas", "St. Elsewhere", "MacGyver", "Scarecrow and Mrs. King", and "Doogie Howser, M.D.". He also had a role in the film "The Glass Shield".

Babson has taught acting at UCLA and Boston University, and penned a book on acting, "The Actor's Choice", published in 1996.

Aside from acting, Babson's other career passion has been hockey. He was captain of his high school hockey team in 1963, which made it to the Massachusettes state quarterfinals, and he also played hockey in college. He has coached at several levels, including working with the Olympic women's hockey teams. He retired as Boston College's head coach of women's hockey in 2003, after four years of coaching there.

Babson is married to his wife, Kelly, and has a child.
