What I think happened is that there was the Gus who was mentioned by Leo Metz, then he sold it to the unnamed bar owner who was mentioned to have died by Gus O'Malley, then (needless to say) Gus O'Malley, and finally Sam Malone.
The reason why Norm didn't ask which Gus was the one Leo was referring to is because both were in the ball park of two owners ago. Another possible reason is because Gus O'Malley wasn't the advice-giving type.
- You might be right of course. I don't know for sure. I watched "The Last Picture Show" recently, which was the episode with Gus O'Malley. I noticed two things because I was thinking about it again. Gus knew who Coach was (because he asked if Woody was "Coach's boy"). If that's the case, why didn't Coach know Gus's name? Gus also mentioned that the owner before him collapsed and died right there at Cheers. Was this the other "Gus"? If that was the case why didn't Norm remember that? Fun to think about. I doubt the owner who died right there at Cheers was the first Gus because Coach didn't know he was dead at first. And the reason how Gus's name slipped Coach's mind could've simply been Coach's "simple-mindedness". Auttheum (talk) 03:23, June 28, 2013 (UTC)
